back like we never left

It's been so long, I've forgot the password to this website. After emails and retrievals and multiple security questions I have hacked into the matrix and am able to communicate with you again. That being said, WHAT UP!

I realize the last post was many moons ago profiling news and updates that have since become truth and/or hear say. I apologize for any hype you may have believed about so and so and lack there of. Now is a new year. Now is a new time. Let's get it poppin.

I've been awarded the privilege of playing spectator for the recent while watching my city grow and move as a scene. I'm proud to say the least. We've got our heavy hitters getting shine and our newcomers getting well received. The friends of mine who are always inspiring me to keep going and work harder are definitely doing their job(s) right now. Groups like Sound Of Lions, who have steadily risen the bar for progressive music in Ottawa, Flight Distance, who's talent alone is impossible to hide from, OG Hindu Kush, who have schooled the players in the game on effective internet promotion and Atherton, who's weekly YouTube plug will garner some hype I have a feeling. All of this is a tell tale sign that Ottawa's rap scene is alive and well. A big shout out to all my DJs in the city as well who have helped shape and rotate the music we supply. Big respect.

With all this drive and inspiration it has given us the motivation and at some points the envy needed to finish what we've seemingly started years ago. The new Homebased record. Currently untitled, the record is very close to completion in stage one. Kane B our DJ/Producer has produced the entire record from head to toe. Anyone who is familiar with Kane's music knows what to expect, however, I must plug my dude and say he has stepped his beat game up ten fold. We've written a PILE of new songs and now have the impossible task of skimming down the list to create an album and not just a compilation of our music. We've been working in collaboration with a very select few of Canadian musicians and have created a tight bond between group and feature. I felt it was important to promote our country's talent rather than reach out elsewhere with dollars in hand to help ourselves solely in promotion. Some may disagree. We've created a sound for ourselves and have a target market in mind. We are much stronger as a group than ever before and realize what it is we have to do to get where we need to get. We're aiming to release this project in the fall so the wait is within reason.

Ottawa, you have been such a promising city to progress within. You've slapped us in the face at the right times and held us up at the right times as well. Now it's our time to hold you up. The rest of the world needs to recognize it is not alone. I'll wrap this up by saying support your local music scene whatever it may be and it will equally support you back. get busy.

Till next time,

Beta

BETTY POPPED HER CHERRY!!!

BETTY JUST GOT HER CHERRY POPPED!!!!!!!

Thats right folks, the first night of "THE BETTY WHITE TOUR" popped off without a hitch. From soundcheck to the last round of beers, the evening was filled with a NIGHT OF FIRSTS among a potent line up of 3 of OTTAWAs finest local HIP HOP acts.

Although you wouldn't know it from their set (check back, video comming soon), FINE YOUNG GENTLEMEN were proud I'm sure of their POP to start off the evening. CORMZ AND NEVER ENDER pounded their hearts through the mics with DJ DMASS holdin em down on the ONEs and TWOs.

BLUNT FORCE TRAUMA stepped up next with just that, BLUNT FORCE. From the ROBOT vs. SCIENTIST, to the veins viciously protruding from NICK TESSLAs neck as he chanted "ITS BLUNT MOTHA FUKKA" to BORIS THE BAD CITIZEN tossing out handfulls of BLUNT WRAPS (one of witch I am currently, thoroughly enjoying). Their stage show was just that, a very well performed show in itself.

As far as us, H to the BIZZY. What can I say.... I guess I can start with the lil cherry pop of our own, in that tonight was the first HOMEBASED set accompanied by a live musician. With KANEs deep rooted bangers shakin the stage and BERCs crazy SLAP FUNK style abusing his BASS strings, BETA VEL (f.k.a. Dynamo Non Profet) and I threw out a set of mostly UPCOMING TRACKS from our yet to be named SOPHMORE RELEASE. Finishing off the set was our newest FRESH OFF THE PAD track we literally wrote 2 days a go, "Oo a oH". Hopefully you'll hear it soon, however if patience is not one of your virtues you can always peep HOMEBASED live at any of the 4 remaining dates on the BETTY WHITE TOUR.

After all was said and done, DJ DMASS kept the floor movin with his eclectic selection of old and new hip hop classics. Much love to my man TEDDY KGB and the family at ODD ANGLE MUSIC for putting on another HIP HOP outlet for deserving LOCAL ARTISTS.

BIGGS AND UPPS AGAIN to everyone who came out and everyone involved, including BIG BEN THE SOUND ENGE managing our levels.

W/ LOVE N RESPECT FROM THE HB FAM,

THE BETTY WHITE COLD FASHIONED TOUR

BLAOW!

What up! It's been awhile since I took the time out to update this bloggity blog. Here it is. We have been crazy busy with our respective lives as everyday folk BUT we have not forgotten our after 8 personalities. Allow me to bring you up to date should you be interested of course. Those of you who aren't, peace and respects for at least giving us the web hit(s). Back to business, we're getting ready to embark on a busy few weeks. We've found ourselves in a 3 week grind with 5 shows in between. Pretty randomly actually. Betty White reached out to us and gave us news she'd checked out our music and digged it. Crazy, I know. So she sponsored our venture and gave us a killer reason to ride her recent (new-found) fame. Shouts to Betty on that tip. We're pretty stoked to get back to performing again in and outside of town. This coming Thursday June 17 (http://www.facebook.com/textstyle?ref=ts#!/event.php?eid=125924084109258&ref=ts) we've got a cool little twist on our set we're ready to unveil. Check it for yourselves, no spoilers here. Then we're off to the big city of broken dreams. Toronto. June 24 we will be performing at the 5 Dollar Rap Night, pretty self explanatory title. Shouts to Wordburglar and the rest of the crew over there, see y'all in a few weeks. After that, its back home for what is set to be a BANGER! Kapacity's Canada Day Stamina event (http://www.facebook.com/textstyle?ref=ts#!/event.php?eid=131187483564975&ref=ts). We're opening for one of our early favorites and inspirations in rap, DL Incognito. Very hyped, and it's freakin' Canada Day! This train keeps rolling when our good friends TWIN PEAKS, otherwise known as Ghettosocks and Muneshine make a stop in Ottawa on July 2 at Babylon for a leg of their very own tour, Perfect Strangers (http://www.facebook.com/textstyle?ref=ts#!/event.php?eid=127963843892031&ref=ts). If that wasn't enough, cause it's really never enough, we're hitting the road some short hours later to Montreal. We're proud to be involved the Step Your Life Game Up Saturdays series put on by the homie Loe Pesci. We will definitely have our lives stepped up by then, at least for the day. All in all, that sums up the impromptu mini tour that Betty so graciously stamped her approval on. Here's the dates and info.

JUNE 17 | CAFE DEKCUF, OTT

JUNE 24 | RANCHO RELAXO, TOR

JUNE 30 | RITUAL NIGHTCLUB, OTT *

New thousand ten

Update time!

It's been a rather busy month I must say for all of us, and by us, I mean homebased and the Ottawa rap scene in general. Lots happening, lots of new year buzz in the air, lots of talk of big things to come blah blah blah. This year more than ever has already promised some high end releases by some of my favourite local artists including Flight Distance (myspace.com/flightdistance), Stopwatch Gang (myspace.com/stopwatchgang), Jesse Dangerously (myspace.com/jessedangerously) and more! But one in particular has me all gassed up.. Kool Krys' album "Perfume". If you have ever had the chance to meet Kool Krys in person, you instantly recognize her attention to you as an individual and more importantly, a fan. She is a great friend of ours and equally a great inspiration to the level of drive and attention needed to shine through the foggy abyss. I (dynamo NP), am honoured to be featured on Krys' album on a song called "I'll be around" (koolkrys.bandcamp.com) and I am stoked to be part of a record that also features the likes of Ghettosocks, Jesse Dangerously, Eternia and the man behind the boards Bigg Bix!
Now, to hop off of Krys' dick (figure of speech, of course) for a minute, the reason I am plugging this is to help her promote her album release party slated for Saturday, February 20, 2010. This event is taking place at Babylon Nightclub, 317 Bank St. The homie Ghettosocks, will be in attendance and sure to break the roof off as per usual, as well Dee Jay Frame will be manning the wheels o' steel. I STRONGLY recommend you check this out and support someone so passionate about what they do. She will love you forever, trust me!
Okay, Homebased time. We've been steady building the new record up, writing, writing and more writing. Kane has been beat banging, beat banging, sleeping and beat banging. Now, believe me when I tell you this...dude, this record is going to be RIDICULOUS. We're about half way through it now, and we've blown ourselves away with the overall look/feel of it so far. I know a lot of people will say their shit's the best and you haven't heard nothing yet and bladda bladda, but for really real, you haven't heard Homebased like this before. Kane's beats are just...are just...what we need. I don't know how he does it to be honest. Anyway, before this drags on any longer than it should, look out for us, look out for the dudes I mentioned above, look out for Krys' new record.
March 10-14 we will be performing at this years Canadian Music Week. Happy upcoming birthday to the big homie Newsince, Frame, Ath and anyone else celebrating. More to come.

Canadian Music Week 2010

UGH! and anotha one!

We have been accepted to perform at this coming year's Canadian Music Week in Toronto! The festival is a week long showcase of international multi-genre bands and culture. The festival can draw anywhere from 10-15,000 people ranging from big wig music execs to die hard indy enthusiasts. We're also pretty stoked to be invited to the 2010 TuneUp Conference in Toronto, which is designed to help new and experienced bands hone their skills in the business and artistic aspects of what we do. AND like this couldn't get any more legit, we are now members of the Canadian Association for Advancement of Music and the Arts (CAAMA). Oh shiiiiiiit, oh yeah and Kane just got his MPC 2000..

Here's the CMW link, check in regularly for artist and festival updates!

Swollen show

November 28, 2009 - Ritual Nightclub - Ottawa, ON

We had a wicked opportunity to open for one of Canada's legendary hip hop groups, Swollen Members. The show was BANANAS!

We arrived at the venue nice and early for soundcheck (8:30) and there was already a line up down the block. good look. We walked in to say whats up to the staff and mingled with Manafest(myspace.com/manafestca) and Swollen's merch guy. Swollen was camped up in their tour bus outside the venue, while the anxious fans smoked and did the "I have to pee" dance until the doors were eventually cracked. DJ Drastik (myspace.com/djdrastik) dropped some bangers for a solid hour and a half until we got the nod to set up. We said whats up to the people while Kane set his shit up and were immediately welcomed by a brand new audience! I'd say the crowd was mostly Ottawa U and Carleton U students who were ready to wild out to whatever spit through the speakers. Once Kane dropped the "Waiting" beat (homebased.bandcamp.com) we got right into it and left no room to doubt what we're all about. We followed that joint up with the "Few Words" mash up than right into the unreleased "All I Know". By this point, the crowd was going mental and fists were hitting the air to show us love and appreciation. We kept things moving and dropped another unreleased joint "Headache" (name pending), than Kane mashed that up with our super banger "Disguise" which blew the roof off. We had a special guest join us for our last song of the evening, the big homie Newsince (Ground Royal) for the posse cut "Entertain Us". To a roaring applause we threw the peace signs up and made our way off the stage, graced by the new fans we had just made. The feedback was nothing but positive and we did the job we came to do!
To those of you who missed the show, we'll be uploading video footage as soon as we can! Stay tuned folks..
